Tumble dryer won't turn on? 6 things to check
A dryer often won't start because of something small: a full condensate tank, a door that isn't closed or the button lock. Check these before you call a repair service.
- Most common cause
- door, condensate tank or lock
- Time
- 10–15 minutes
- Repair shop
- 270–950 zł
If the breaker trips or you smell burning, unplug the dryer and don't turn it on. Don't remove the casing, especially on a heat pump dryer.
Step by step
Check the socket and breaker
Plug another appliance into the socket and check the breaker. Don't use an extension cord or power strip.
Close the door until it clicks
The dryer won't start with the door ajar. Check laundry isn't caught in the seal.
Empty the condensate tank
A full or badly inserted tank blocks the start. Empty it and push it in fully.
Clean the filters
A clogged lint filter or heat exchanger can stop the dryer. Clean both filters.
Turn off the lock and delayed start
A padlock on the panel is the button lock. A countdown means a delayed start. You'll find how to turn them off in the manual.
Reset the dryer
Unplug it for 10 minutes and run a short programme.
- the panel is completely dead even though the socket works
- the breaker trips
- you smell burning
- the error returns after a reset
