Galaxy Buds: reset and re-pair when they won't connect or only one plays

Updated: October 2026

When Galaxy Buds act up, a restart in the case and then a reset in the app usually helps. Below are the steps, from the gentlest first.

Most common cause
a drained earbud, a pairing error or wrong balance
Time
10–15 minutes

Before you start

The reset restores the earbuds to factory settings and removes their settings and pairing. Afterwards, pair them again. Don't clean them with water or sharp tools.

Step by step

  1. Charge the earbuds and the case

One earbud is often just drained. Put both in the case and plug it into the charger.

  2. Do a quick restart in the case

Put the earbuds in the case, close it and wait at least 7 seconds. This is a simple restart.

  3. Clean the charging contacts

Clean the contacts in the earbuds and in the case with a dry cotton swab or a soft brush.

  4. Check the sound balance

Go to Settings → Accessibility → Hearing enhancements and set the left/right sound balance to the middle.

  5. Remove the earbuds from the Bluetooth list

Go to Settings → Connections → Bluetooth, tap the gear icon next to the earbuds and choose Unpair. Then pair them again.

  6. Warning: reset the earbuds in the app

The reset restores factory settings and removes the earbuds' settings. The earbuds must be connected to the phone. Open the Galaxy Wearable app, go to Earbuds settings and choose Reset earbuds. Then pair them again.

Stop and take it to a repair shop if
  • Only one earbud plays after the reset.
  • An earbud or the case won't charge even after cleaning.
  • The earbuds got wet or were dropped.
  • The battery lasts a very short time.
