Induction hob: zone not heating, panel not responding or showing an error

Updated: October 2026

A “broken” induction zone is very often fine, and the pan or the panel lock is to blame. Real faults are usually the power module, the electronics under the glass.

Before you start

Don't use a hob with cracked glass. Switch it off at the circuit breaker until it's repaired. There's live electronics under the glass.

Step by step

  1. Check the pan

Hold a magnet to the base. If it sticks firmly, the pan works with induction. The base must be flat and about the same size as the zone. A pan that's too small won't be detected.

  2. Dry the panel

Water, grease and spilled milk on the touch area block the buttons or switch the hob off.

  3. Turn off the lock

A key or padlock symbol means the child lock is on. You usually turn it off by holding the symbol for a few seconds.

  4. Check power management

Many hobs limit power (for example on a weaker electrical installation). When you switch on several zones at once, the hob lowers the power or turns one of them off. Check the settings in the manual.

  5. Note the error code and reset

Switch the hob off at the circuit breaker for 5 minutes. If the error comes back, write down the code (for example a letter and a number) and look it up in the manual. Some errors are overheating caused by poor ventilation.

  6. Make sure there's ventilation

There must be free space under the hob for air. A packed drawer right under the hob makes the electronics overheat.

Stop and take it to a repair shop if
  • The glass is cracked.
  • The zone doesn't heat even with a suitable pan and after a reset.
  • The hob trips the circuit breaker or you smell burning.

How much does a repair shop charge?

Power module repair (one or two zones)340–820 zł
Replacing the touch panel270–650 zł
Replacing the glass with frame680–1750 zł
New induction hob (for comparison)1200–3400 zł

Typical prices at independent repair shops in Poland, October 2026. Authorised service centres and big cities can be more expensive.

Repair or buy new?

Repairing the electronics usually pays off on hobs worth over 1500 zł. Replacing the glass often costs 50–80% of the price of a new hob. With cheap models, buying a new one is better.

FAQ

Can a pan break an induction hob?

No, but a pan with an uneven base overheats the electronics and shortens their life. Hitting the glass too hard with a pan can also crack it.

Why does my hob whistle or hum?

A light hum or buzz at high power is the normal sound of the fan and coils, especially with lighter pans.

Is the hob safe after the glass is replaced?

Yes, if it was replaced with an original part and checked for tightness. Avoid cheap third-party parts of unknown origin.
