No signal, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth on your phone? Reset network settings

Updated: October 2026

A network settings reset removes saved Wi-Fi passwords and Bluetooth pairings. Your photos and apps stay. Keep your Wi-Fi password handy, because you will have to enter it again.

Step by step

  1. Turn on Airplane mode and turn it off after a minute

This refreshes the radio connections. Then restart the phone.

  2. Check whether the router is the problem

Restart the router (unplug it for 30 seconds) and check whether other devices connect to the network. If they do not, the problem is with the router or your provider.

  3. Pair Bluetooth again

Remove the device from the paired list and connect it again.

  4. Check the SIM card

If there is no signal, switch off the phone, take out the SIM card and put it back in. Check that the network is not set to manual and switch it to automatic.

  5. Forget the Wi-Fi network and reconnect

Remove the network from the saved list and enter the password again. This fixes problems after a password change or a router update.

  6. Before the network reset

Warning: a network settings reset removes saved Wi-Fi networks with their passwords and paired Bluetooth devices. Write down any passwords you need.

  7. Reset network settings

iPhone: Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Reset → Reset Network Settings. Samsung: Settings → General management → Reset → Reset network settings. Pixel and Motorola: Settings → System → Reset options → Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth. Xiaomi: Settings → Connection & sharing → Reset Wi-Fi, mobile networks & Bluetooth. Names may differ depending on the system version.

Stop and take it to a repair shop if
  • There is no signal even with another SIM card and in several places.
  • Wi-Fi will not turn on at all and the switch is greyed out.
  • The problems began after the phone was dropped or got wet.
  • The phone gets hot along with the network dropouts.

FAQ

Will a network reset delete my photos?

No. It only removes saved Wi-Fi networks, Bluetooth pairings and mobile network settings.

Why does my phone only lose signal at home?

Most often it is down to the operator’s network or the building. Test with a SIM card from another operator, or turn on Wi-Fi calling.

Does this method work on a tablet?

Yes, the steps are very similar. On an iPad: Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPad → Reset.

Do I need to enter my PIN after a network reset?

No. The SIM PIN stays, but you will have to enter your Wi-Fi passwords again.
