Cordless vacuum has weak suction, pulses or drains fast?
Lost suction in a cordless vacuum is almost always dirty filters or something blocking the tube. Pulsing means it's starved of air. Short run time is the battery, which you can often replace yourself.
- Most common cause
- dirty filter, blocked tube, worn battery
- Time
- 15 minutes (+24 h for the filter to dry)
- Battery
- 270–680 zł
Take the vacuum off the charger before cleaning. Don't wash the motor or the battery. Wash only parts the manual marks as washable.
Step by step
Empty the bin and clean the cyclone
A full bin and dust on the cyclone mesh reduce power. Empty it after every cleaning session and wipe the mesh.
Wash the filters
Rinse the filters (often two: a pre-filter and a HEPA) under cold water without detergent, if the manual allows it. Dry them for 24 hours. A damp filter can damage the motor.
Check the tube and brush
Detach the tube and look through it towards the light. Socks, clumps of hair and LEGO bricks are common blockages. The vacuum pulses when that happens.
Clean the brush roll
Cut off the hair wound around the roll, take it out and check that the ends spin freely. Wipe the contacts between the brush and the tube.
Check the power mode
Max/Boost mode can cut run time several times over. For everyday cleaning, Eco or Auto is enough.
Assess the battery
A battery loses capacity after 2–4 years. In many models (for example Dyson V10 and newer, Xiaomi, Dreame) you can replace it yourself with a button or a single screw. Buy an original or a trusted third-party one.
- The motor is loud, squeals or you smell burning.
- The vacuum cuts out after a few seconds even with a new battery.
- It won't charge even with a working charger and clean contacts.
How much does a repair shop charge?
| New battery (original / third-party) | 270–680 zł |
| New filters | 70–200 zł |
| Replacing / repairing the powered brush head | 200–520 zł |
| Replacing the motor | 410–1000 zł |
Typical prices at independent repair shops in Poland, October 2026. Authorised service centres and big cities can be more expensive.
Repair or buy new?
The battery and filters are consumable parts. Replacing them almost always pays off, especially in pricier models. Replacing the motor in a vacuum that costs under 1000 zł usually doesn't.

How often should I wash the vacuum filter?
Once a month, more often in a home with pets. Replace it every year or when it loses its shape.
Why does my vacuum pulse?
It's motor protection when airflow is blocked. Check the filters, bin, tube and brush.
Are cheap third-party batteries safe?
Choose third-party batteries from well-known sellers, with certificates and protection circuits. The cheapest no-name batteries may have an inflated capacity and weak protection.
