Dryer not responding or program frozen? How to reset it
A frozen dryer very often just needs the lock switched off or a short disconnection from power. Start with the simplest things.

The inside and the drum can be hot, so after an interrupted program wait about fifteen minutes before taking out the laundry. When unplugging, pull the plug, not the cable. Warning: on models with Wi-Fi, a factory reset from the menu removes the pairing with the app and the saved settings. Simply cutting the power does not erase anything.
Step by step
Look for the lock symbol on the display
Look for a padlock, a key or the letters “CL”. This is the child lock, which makes the buttons stop responding.
Switch off the child lock
Hold the button with the padlock (Lock or Child Lock) for about 3 seconds. On many models you need to hold two buttons at once. The exact combination is in the manual under “child lock”.
Check the door and the water tank
The dryer will not start with the door open or not fully closed. Take out the condensate tank and put it back in, because a full or crooked tank can stop the program.
Stop the program
Press Start/Pause, open the door and wait a moment. Be careful, as the drum can be hot.
Unplug the dryer for 5 minutes
Pull the plug from the socket (or switch off the circuit breaker) for 5 minutes, then switch it back on. This is a simple reset of the electronics and does not erase settings.
Select the program again from the start
Turn the dryer on and set the program again. If it starts, the problem was temporary. If not, try another socket, because an extension cord or power strip may not deliver enough power.
- The panel does not light up after you unplug and plug the dryer back in.
- The dryer trips the circuit breakers in your home.
- The same error code appears again after the reset.
- You smell burning or see smoke.

Repair or buy new?

What does “CL” on the dryer display mean?
On many models it means the child lock (Child Lock). You can switch it off by holding the padlock button or the combination from the manual.
Does unplugging hurt the dryer?
No. It is a safe reset. Wait a few minutes so the electronics can discharge.
Why does the dryer stop in the middle of a program?
