Console will not connect to the internet? 6 steps before you call a repair shop
Most often the router, the password or the network settings are to blame, not the console itself. You can check this in a few minutes.

These steps do not delete any data. Write down your Wi-Fi password before you remove the network from the list. Change router settings only if you know what you are changing.
Step by step
Restart the router and the console
Turn the router off for a minute, turn the console off, then turn both back on.
Run the connection test
In the console’s network settings, run the internet connection test and see which step fails (network, IP address, internet).
Reconnect from scratch
Forget the Wi-Fi network and connect again, entering the password. If you can, switch to a LAN cable or to the 5 GHz network.
Set up the connection on PlayStation
PS5: Settings → Network → Settings → Set Up Internet Connection. Choose your network and enter the password again.
Set up the connection on Xbox
Settings → General → Network settings → Test network connection. In the advanced settings, clear the alternate MAC address.
Set DNS manually
If needed, set DNS manually in the console’s network settings to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. The path depends on your model and system version.
- Other devices have no internet either, so the problem is in the router or with your provider.
- The console sees no Wi-Fi networks, but the LAN cable works.
- The LAN port is loose or damaged.
- The console connects only right next to the router.

Why does my console see Wi-Fi but have no internet?
Usually it is a DNS error or a problem with your provider. Run the connection test and try setting DNS manually.
Is a LAN cable better than Wi-Fi?
Yes. It is faster and more stable. For online gaming we recommend a cable if you can use one.
What is the alternate MAC address on Xbox?
It is a manually entered address of the network card. It sometimes causes problems, so clear it if you have trouble connecting.
