Washing machine: program frozen? How to cancel it and reset
When a program freezes, a safe reset usually helps: stop it, cut the power and start again. The key is not to open the door when there is water inside.

Don't open the door when there is water in the drum. The water in the drum can be hot. Unplug the machine with dry hands. Warning: on models with Wi-Fi (Home Connect, SmartThinQ, SmartThings), a factory reset from the menu removes the pairing with the app and your saved programs. Simply cutting the power doesn't delete anything.
Step by step
Press Start/Pause
Press Start/Pause and wait until the drum stops. Don't open the door if you can see water.
Turn off the machine and pull the plug
Turn the machine off with the button, then pull the plug from the socket.
Wait 5 minutes
Wait 5 minutes, turn the machine on again and select a program from the beginning.
Drain the water
If water was left in the drum, run the Drain or Spin program. Only open the door once the drum is empty.
Cancel the program on your brand
Bosch has no separate reset button. At a high temperature, first cool the laundry: select Rinse/Spin and press Start/Reload. At a lower temperature, select Spin or Drain and press Start/Reload. Beko: on models with a Cancel/Drain button, hold it for 3 seconds, and on models with a dial, set Drain without spin and press Start. Candy: on models with a dial, set it to OFF. Indesit: hold ON/OFF for longer, or turn the dial to another program.
Check the pump filter and the hose
If the program freezes during draining, clean the pump filter. Put a flat tray underneath, slowly unscrew the filter and remove coins, buttons and lint.
Do a factory reset only as a last resort
Warning: on Wi-Fi models a factory reset removes the pairing with the app and your saved programs. Ordinary washing machines have no such option. If the machine freezes after a reset, the fault is in the electronics.

What should I do when the machine stops with water in the drum?
