Motorola freezing? Force restart and factory reset
A frozen Motorola can usually be revived with a force restart. Leave the factory reset for last, because it deletes your data.

Restart and Safe mode do not delete data. A factory reset wipes everything, so back up your photos, contacts and passwords. Also remember your Google account password, because the phone will ask for it after the reset.
Step by step
Try a normal restart
Hold the power button and choose Restart.
Force restart
Hold the power button and Volume Up together until the screen goes dark and the phone starts again. This combination works on newer Moto G, Edge and Razr phones. If it does not help, look up the combination in your model’s manual.
Update the system and apps
Check for updates in Settings and in Google Play.
Free up space
Leave at least a few GB free on the phone. Delete unused apps and large files.
Start Safe mode
Hold the power button, touch and hold Power off and confirm with OK. If the phone works well in it, uninstall the app you installed most recently.
Back up your data
Warning: a factory reset deletes all data. Back up to your Google account or move your files to a computer.
Erase all data
Go to Settings → System → Reset options → Erase all data (factory reset). After the restart, set up the phone and check that it runs smoothly.
