Google Pixel freezing? Restart, Safe mode and factory reset
A Pixel frozen on screen can usually be fixed with a forced restart. If that does not help, Safe mode will show whether an app is to blame.

Restart and Safe mode do not delete data. A factory reset wipes everything from the phone, so first turn on Google One backup and check that it completed. Remember your Google account password.
Step by step
Try a normal restart
Hold the power button and choose Restart.
Force restart
If the screen does not respond, hold the power button for about 30 seconds, until the phone restarts.
Update the system and apps
Check for updates in Settings and in Google Play. Fixes often cure freezing.
Free up space
Go to Settings → Storage → Free up space, or use the Files by Google app and its Clean tab. Leave a few GB free.
Start Safe mode
Hold the power button, touch and hold Power off and confirm with OK. If the phone works well in Safe mode, uninstall the apps you added recently. You leave Safe mode by restarting.
Back up your data
Warning: a factory reset deletes all data. Turn on Google One backup and copy your photos to Google Photos or a computer.
Erase all data
Go to Settings → System → Reset options → Erase all data (factory reset) and confirm. After the reset, set up the phone and check whether the problem is gone.
